Badminton
I am continuing Badminton with my peer Satyanshu Sapra as I have already done badminton last year. I have am developing skills which I didn't know already. For example although I was good in Smashes in Badminton although, I wasn't very good with my drop skills which is a skilled shot that people play in order to trick the opponent. In the following: -

This connects to my CAS criteria in which I increased my awareness of my strengths and my areas for growth. I have found that I need to develop my skills in drop shots although, I am good with smashes.

In my previous sessions I have undertaken new challenges as I have started playing badminton with my more experienced players which have been involved in badminton for more than 4 years. This shows that I have undertaken new challenges which connect to my CAS criteria. Evidences of this are shown in the following photos/videos: -

During this time when I have been attending my badminton classes regularly at a regular basis. I go to badminton every Sundays and Saturdays mornings with my peers. Some evidence for it is given below: -

This connects to my third CAS criteria that I have planned and initiated activities as I have been attending the Badminton sessions regularly.

In my Badminton of CAS I have worked collaboratively with my peers as I have been many doubles in Badminton with different people so that I can develop my skills for doubles as well in Badminton. I have been working collaborate as well because I have planned going to D.S. Senanayke college very weekend with my peers.

I have shown perseverance and commitment my activities as I have attended for the badminton sessions regularly. During the course of this activity I have seen some problems although I overcame them. For example in one of the sessions the College D.S.Senanayke was full therefore I couldn't play badminton there although, I went to another college called Royal college therefore I have overcame my problems during this time in badminton.

I have been involved in a sport that had a global importance. Badminton is very famous in a lot of countries now. People all around the world want to learn badminton and play it. It is an international sport.

During this semester there was one ethical issue. On November 12th there was another group which wanted to book the badminton court at the same time. There were some issues at that time as we decided to share our court with them. There was only one court for 1 hour therefore we got only 3 times to play. Out of these 3 times I did not get to play at all therefore for me it was a complete wastage of time. Our group started to have discussions with the other group as they played about 6 times. Having a srgument with them was not very ethical therefore next time I would try to adjust according to situation and not have a argument with people.

Goal setting for Creativity, Action and Service

What is the importance of Creativity in CAS? And what are my goals for creativity?
Creativity is an important part of CAS it develops the person as a whole and tries to make the person think differently from other people and make the person more balanced. For the creativity section of CAS I am going to learn how to play guitar. Learning guitar was one of the things that I always wanted to do. It would relax me down and help me focus on my studies more. The goals are given below: -
1) Find a teacher for my guitar lessons. Most probably my teacher would teach me and my peer Satyanshu (Another Grade 11 student) together therefore I would reffereing to him from time to time.
2) Attend my classes regularly.
3) In the end try to perform a song in assemble infront of my school community.
For action I would have to 'Sweat'. In order to do so I have decided that I would go to badminton with my Indian community which would help me develop skills in badminton. I also have some prior knowledge in badminton which would challenge me a way becuase I would have to develop skills which I don't already have. Playing Badminton would keep me fit. The goals for playing badminton are given below:-
1) Develop new skills
2) Attend the sessions regularly with my Indian community
For Service I am going to join Library service. This would be a perfect match for the other things that I am doing in my creativty and action as it is not very physical but I would have to use my mind constantly in order to put the books in the right order. Although, this doesn't sound very challenging but sometimes it can be very challenging as somethings you have rearranging a whole shelf as none of the books are in order. For library service my goals would be as follows: -
1) Be attentive in the library services.
2) Attend the sessions regularly.
3) come up with new ideas in order to promote reading in school.

What is CAS?

What is CAS?

CAS (Community, Action and Service)

CAS is a program which aims to develop a person as a whole and make the person look inside himself for hidden skills and develop new skills during the time in IBDP. As the IB says, “The CAS requirement is a fundamental part of the programme and takes seriously the importance of life outside the world of scholarship, providing a refreshing counterbalance to academic studies.” (http://www.ibo.org/diploma/curriculum/core/cas/) the CAS would be a part of my life for the next two years and I am also looking foreword to it because it would make me a more balanced person and it would make me develop some skills that are very useful in today’s world. CAS would be a new experience for me because I have not done anything for creativity at a regular basis. It would also challenge me physically as I would have to some thing which requires action and in other words I would have to do something which would make me ‘Sweat’. Moreover, it would be a lot of fun for me and I would plan to be focused on my CAS activities, participate in it energetically and enjoy.
