Reflection of the 4th and 5th day of WWW (Trip to Yala)

We were so excited for going to Yala but before that we also went to 2 temples which were very religious places. I made me realize the cultural importance of buddism in Sri Lanka. The 2 temples were very nice and they were situated at very peaceful places.

After visiting the temples we then went to Yala national park. At Yala national park we saw a tiger and a crocodile. The rich natural heritage of Sri Lanka was shown here. It was a lot of fun. After visiting these places we came back to hotel. The next day in the morning we left back for the school.

Here are some of my pictures on the trip.

Reflection for the 3rd day of WWW (Final Day for working at the schools)

The only thing that was going in my mind was that I needed to finish a lot of work along with my peers. There was so much work that it almost seemed impossible to complete every work within the time limit. Went we arrived at the school we were again welcomed by the warmly by kids of the school and given a flower by each of the child. After the welcoming we started interacting freely with the kids as it was easier for us and the kids to interact. We decided to play the games that the kids knew not the games that we knew in order to make it easier for the kids to understand the game.

After the interactive part I again started helping with the landscaping and today we removed the big rocks that could have harmed the kids. Our teacher Mr. Synder was supporting in every way in order to make us enthusiastic about the work. I removed about 6 big stones. The stones that were taken out of the group were put at one place so that the kids which are running around don't get hurt. After I helped with Landscaping I started helping with painting the outside of the school. It took a lot of time to be completed. Although me and the painting team was able to finish the work in 2 hours.

After that I helped in building a tree house for the kids with the supervision of Mr. Synder. He was a very good instructor. We had to firstly sand paper the new wood and remove the older wood. It took a lot of time to sand paper everything. Then we started planning out a strong structure for the tree house so that it is safe for the kids who are playing there. While working on the tree house I also helped with the murals. I helped them with my long height as I was the only person that could reach the top of the big walls and paint them . I also helped to mix some paints in order to get a perfect paint which was required for painting. Then we painting the see saws and we also fixed the swings. We replaced the old wood with new ones. We made everything look new by painting them.

After I finished helping other people with their work I returned to Mr. Synder in order to help him construct the tree house. After we finished planning for the structure we started putting every wood in place. It was a time taking job as we needed to do everything perfectly as we did not want the children to get harmed.

After we finished everything the school look like a better place for the children. The schools looked very new. I did a lot of work in order to make it possible for us to finish the work on time. After we finished everything we were assembled together for a final meeting with the kids. We sang a song for them and they also perform a song for us as a thanks giving for us. Then we packed up our tools and then we came back to the hotel. We were so exhausted by all the work that we had done, although there was sense of satisfaction from the work as we made the schools a better place for the children to study and gain knowledge.
